Hayden NewtonHayden Newton the Chief Executive of the East of England Ambulance Service Trust (EEAST) has been appointed President of Cambridgeshire Search and Rescue.

“Having been a previous member of CamSAR I am delighted to be taking up this position”. Mr Newton has previously worked in Cambridgeshire, Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire during an ambulance career which began in Peterborough.
A former operational manager at Peterborough ambulance station, Hayden took up a directorship at the Scottish Ambulance Service in 1988 before returning to England as Director of Performance for the Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire Ambulance Service in 2000.
He was then appointed Chief Executive of Kent Ambulance Service in 2003, leading the Trust in attaining three star status from the Healthcare Commission, before moving to a national post at the Department of Health leading on the Call Connect initiative.
He also served as Interim Chief Executive of the Ambulance Service Association and led the negotiations around the merger with the NHS Confederation, which has now successfully gone ahead.

Julie Buckfield, star of TV’s Hollyoaks, renowned stage actress & local Celebrity

Julie BuckfieldDescribed as a young energetic actress supporting a dynamic cause Julie’s involvement with Cambridgeshire Search & Rescue began in 2008. “It’s very easy to sit by and wonder what happens when peoples loved ones go missing but many people are unaware that the police rely heavily on volunteer teams like CamSAR to provide the support and search capabilities to find these vulnerable people and bring them home. These people are the unsung heroes of Cambridgeshire often taking little credit for their lifesaving work”.


Trained at the renowned Sylvia Young Theatre School in London, Julie Buckfield’s career has spanned over 20 years as both a child and adult actress. As a child actress Julie is best known for playing the leading role of Natalie Stevens in Grange Hill for four years. In addition Julie performed the role of Young Eponine in Les Miserables and Anne in The Roses of Eyam.


As an adult actress Julie has made numerous guest appearances in The Bill, London’s Burning, Scene, Expert Witness, Casualty, Holby City and Pie in the Sky as well as co-presenting a Disney Club Summer Special from Jersey. However Julie is best known for the leading role of Julie Matthews in Holyoaks and also the leading role of Annie Taylor in Extr@ which is exported globally.

Since 1997 Julie has built up an extensive career in the theatre, playing leading roles in Don’t Rock the Boat, Much Ado about Nothing for the British Shakespeare Company, A Slice of Saturday Night, and The Tart and the Vicar’s Wife - the latter two for the Theatre Royal in Lincoln. Amongst the tours Julie has played leading roles in are the No 1 tours of Passport to Pimlico, Bad Blood, and Caught in the Net along with the revival The Ghost Train in for Ian Dickens Productions. Most recently Julie has played the leasing role of Tricia in The Naked Truth for Theatre Productions.

For the past decade Julie has built up a reputation as one of the countries leading actresses playing the Principal Boy role in pantomime, having played Peter Pan and incredible five times. Recently, Julie has become the resident panto star of the Cambridge Arts Theatre pantomimes, playing the title roles in Jack and the Beanstalk, Dick Whittington, Aladdin and most recently Cinderella in which she finally got to play the Principal Girl role. In addition Julie also created the role of Cherry Kola in Rip van Winkle and the Fizziness Business which premiered at the Lawrence Batley Theatre in Huddersfield and has appeared in Jack and the Beanstalk and Dick Whittington for the Lewisham Theatre.
