CamSAR, search and recovery of vulnerable missing persons

An introduction by founder Paul Arnill

Cambridgeshire Search and Rescue (CamSAR) was founded on the 1st August 2006 to provide trained search and rescue technicians to Cambridgeshire Constabulary in the search and recovery of vulnerable missing persons. A vulnerable missing person could be a child, an elderly person suffering from dementia or even someone who is considering taking their own life, in each case and many others an emergency response is vital.

As a registered charity CamSAR relies entirely on donations from the public and local businesses and receives no government funding. All donations and money raised go directly to the running of the team.

Available 24 hours a day 365 days a year the team is equipped to reach even the farthest parts of the county within an hour. All of our volunteers are trained to national standards in comprehensive Search and Rescue techniques and those skills are extended by further training in other relevant subject s like first aid, navigation and communications to name but a few.

Our search management team draws upon not only formal search management training but also joint experience and knowledge in personnel management and logistics coupled with health and safety, crisis management and emergency resource deployment enabling the team to provide a comprehensive SAR resource within the county.

CamSAR are also able to deploy various specialist resources including a kayak and mountain bike unit and individual team specialists such as paramedics and trackers. The team also utilises its own radio communications equipment making CamSAR completely self sufficient.

This website has been designed to give you an insight into the workings of the team. If you are interested in joining CamSAR or finding out more about how you can help the team then please get in contact with us, we would love to hear from you.
